Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio Presents The Inaugural JA Business Challenge

AKRON — April 20, 2009 — The inaugural JA Business Challenge, a one-day business simulation that helps young people get a realistic glimpse of managing a company and marketing a product in a competitive, high tech marketplace  will be held on Friday, April 24.  

Junior Achievement is about education, financial literacy and workforce readiness. The JA Business Challenge is a scholarship opportunity for local students to assist with the rising costs of higher education.

“This event will be a true community gathering, bringing educators, business leaders, and students together for a day of learning, networking, and competition,” said Ashley Kellicker, Development Director.  “I am excited to announce that we have 22 teams representing ten local high schools registered for the competition. This is a great opportunity for these students as they compete against other local teams for Scholarship Dollars and Bragging Rights!”

The event will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 from 8:15 am – 2:30 pm  at  The University of Akron in the The Karen & Gary Taylor Center for Direct Marketing, Polsky Building, Fifth Floor, 225 South Main St., Akron Ohio.

Participating Schools Include:  Black River High School, Buckeye Local High School, Cuyahoga Falls High School, Field High School, Hudson High School, Nordonia High School, Norton High School, River View High School, St. Ignatius High School, Waynedale High School, and Wooster High School.

Companies providing volunteers and funding include: Lockheed Martin (Scholarship Sponsor), ExxonMobil Chemical (Community Sponsor), EYEMG (Community Sponsor), BridgestoneFirestone Trust Fund (Team Sponsor), Buckeye Container Company (Team Sponsor), Family Treasures Jewelers (Team Sponsor), Westfield Insurance (Team Sponsor), Diamond Polymers, FedEx Custom Critical, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Huntington National Bank, GE Money, and Deluxe Corporation.
