SOLON, Ohio – Solon police officers managed several significant criminal incidents this week, ranging from a major business fraud investigation to an OVI arrest involving multiple young children. The department’s recent activity highlights a focus on Solon police reports involving financial crimes, illegal firearm possession, and roadway safety within the city limits . Business Fraud Investigation and Altered Checks On March 12, a 55-year-old Solon resident reported a significant financial crime to the Solon PD involving his business checking account . The victim discovered that four checks, originally mailed from Twinsburg, had been intercepted, altered, or counterfeited . These checks were subsequently cashed by individuals unknown to the business owner, resulting in a total loss exceeding $24,000 . Solon detectives have initiated an investigation into the source of the fraud . Weapons Offense and Open Container Arrests A traffic stop on March 14 led to the recovery of a loaded firearm and multiple charges . An officer pulled over a black Honda Accord on US 422 east near SOM Center Road for a license plate light violation . Upon approaching the vehicle in a parking lot on SOM Center, the officer observed an open bottle of tequila and a cup smelling of liquor . During a subsequent search, a driver admitted to possessing a loaded semi-automatic handgun after an officer noticed a bulge in his clothing . The driver was arrested for Improper Handling of a Firearm and the lighting violation . A 38-year-old passenger from Garfield Heights was also cited for an open container violation . Menacing at Local Business and Stolen Vehicle Recovery In separate incidents, Solon officers responded to a dispute and a felony vehicle theft: Menacing: On March 14, an employee at a rental car business on Aurora Road reported being threatened by a customer during a dispute over a cleaning fee . Following a review by the City of Solon prosecutor, a 35-year-old suspect surrendered to jail on March 16 and was charged with Menacing . Stolen Auto: On March 16, police located a white 2025 International box truck on Pettibone Road that had been reported stolen in North Carolina . The 26-year-old driver claimed he believed he had extra time to return the vehicle after the rental agreement expired, but he was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property . Intoxication Leads to Disorderly Conduct and OVI Charges The week concluded with two alcohol-related arrests, one of which involved child endangerment concerns . On March 17, officers were called to a business on Parkland Blvd to assist with an intoxicated employee who had allegedly struck a manager . Due to her uncooperative nature while attempting to secure a ride home, the 33-year-old woman was arrested for Disorderly Conduct . Later that evening, an officer stopped a Chevy Tahoe on Aurora Road for improper plate display . The 40-year-old driver exhibited slurred speech and failed field sobriety tests . Notably, five young children were present in the vehicle at the time of the stop . The driver was charged with OVI and Failure to Reinstate a License, and the case was referred to Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services for follow-up .
