SOLON, Ohio – Drunk Driver Arrested at Giant Eagle Parking Lot On March 22, 2026, at approximately 11:51 p.m., a Solon officer discovered a Nissan Kicks SUV parked across multiple spaces with its hazard lights flashing in the Giant Eagle parking lot on Aurora Road . The driver, a 64-year-old male from Chagrin Falls, claimed he was preparing for work, but officers observed two bottles of liquor in the vehicle, including one near the driver’s legs . The individual exhibited an odor of alcohol, appeared confused, and performed poorly on field sobriety tests . Upon being transported to Solon Jail, the suspect registered a .253% blood alcohol concentration (BAC), which is over three times the legal limit . He was charged with physical control of a vehicle under the influence, prohibited BAC, and failure to reinstate a driver’s license . Weapon Discovered During Traffic Stop for Solon Police Reports Late in the evening on March 24, an officer stopped a dark-colored Ford sedan traveling on Aurora Road near Solon Boulevard because the vehicle was operating with its headlights off . Although the 32-year-old driver from Maple Heights denied having a weapon, officers located an unloaded semi-automatic pistol inside the car . The driver was also found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended license . He was arrested and charged with improper handling of a firearm, driving under suspension, and a equipment violation for the lack of headlights . Solon Resident Loses $1,000 to Utility Scam On March 27, a 53-year-old Solon woman reported a significant financial loss after falling victim to a sophisticated telephone scam . The victim received a voicemail claiming to be from AT&T/Direct TV regarding a promotional pricing offer . After calling the provided number, she was convinced that she needed to pay for a new rate using prepaid gift cards . The victim purchased $500 in gift cards from a grocery store and provided the PINs to the scammer, followed by another $500 in cards after being told there was a “problem” with the first batch . A third attempt to purchase cards was blocked by a fraud protection feature on her credit card . Solon detectives are currently investigating the $1,000 fraud case . OVI Arrest Involves Loaded Magazine and Alcohol Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on March 27, police stopped a red Ford Fusion on SOM Center Road for an obstructed license plate . The officer noted the 24-year-old driver from Chagrin Falls had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol . The driver admitted to consuming two beers prior to the stop and subsequently failed field sobriety tests . A search of the vehicle revealed empty beer bottles and an unloaded semi-automatic pistol in a case in the backseat, alongside a loaded magazine for the weapon . The driver’s BAC was measured at .116% . He was charged with OVI, prohibited BAC, improper handling of a firearm, and possession of an open container .
