GATES MILLS, Ohio – The Gates Mills Police Department addressed a variety of incidents between March 31 and April 4, ranging from severe weather disruptions and multi-jurisdictional traffic accidents to the apprehension of a wanted individual during a roadside assistance call. Gates Mills Police Department traffic assistance On March 31, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Brigham Road and County Line Road following reports of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, it was determined that the collision had occurred within the jurisdiction of Chester Township. Gates Mills officers remained on the scene for an extended period to provide essential traffic control and support for Chester officers as they processed the accident site and cleared debris. Felony warrant arrest during storm Later on March 31, during a period of severe weather, a Gates Mills officer stopped to assist a disabled motorist on Mayfield Road . During the interaction, it was discovered that the female driver had an active felony theft warrant issued by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office . After confirming the warrant with dispatch, officers took the female into custody and transferred her to the GEASO deputies for processing. Storm damage on Chagrin River Road The lingering effects of the week’s weather caused a significant infrastructure hazard on April 3. A large tree fell across Chagrin River Road near Beverly Lane , pulling down active power lines. The Gates Mills Police Department temporarily closed the roadway to ensure public safety while utility crews worked to remove the hazard and restore power to the area. Welfare checks and community events Officers also handled routine community service calls during this period: April 2: A resident on Chagrin River Road was the subject of a welfare check requested by a neighbor. Officers confirmed the resident was safe and simply out of town at the time. April 4: During the village’s Easter Egg Hunt , a lost cell phone was turned in to officers. The department was able to locate the owner and return the device shortly thereafter.
