Based on James Bond creator Ian Fleming’s much-loved children’s novel of the same name, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was first brought to life on the big screen in 1968, starring Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes. Featuring music and lyrics by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman, including the timeless classics “Hushabye Mountain” and “Toot Sweets”, the film was adapted for the stage in 2002, which now includes six additional songs not featured in the film. This year’s spring musical cast of 39 is led by Ezekiel Rayle as imagination-fueled inventor Caractacus Potts and Camille Laviano as strong-willed and romantic candy heiress Truly Scrumptious. Rounding out the Potts family are Ollie Weatherlow-Rand, Addison Campana and Ryan Arieta as Jeremy, Jemima and Grandpa. Katie Hersh, Lowell Halfhill, London Chapman and Benjamin Marchant complete the leading cast. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will also feature several younger cast members, representing the talents of Nordonia Middle School, Lee Eaton, Ledgeview, Northfield Elementary, St. Barnabas and Ohio Connections Academy. In addition to the cast, offstage there are another 60 students working tirelessly as members of the crews, running tech, playing in the orchestra, helping with makeup, hair and costumes, and building Nordonia’s very own flying car! Nordonia Drama is thrilled to once again be participating in the Dazzle Awards at Playhouse Square. The Dazzle Awards are high school musical theatre awards for Northeast Ohio, and we are honored to be back to showcase the incredible talent at Nordonia! Helming this year’s musical production is Nordonia High School’s Director of Drama, Chris Simmons. Megan Gargano returns as Choreographer and Assistant Director with Ryan Dulaney back as Music Director. Kitty Flauto and Julia Dulaney also return to help bring the show to life on stage. Performances of this year’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be: Friday and Saturday, April 17th and 18th at 7 PM and Sunday, April 19th at 3 PM. Tickets will be sold online through HomeTown Ticketing. Tickets are $12 and $18 and will go on sale by the end of March.
